New Residents Information

Welcome to Marion! We're glad you have chosen our town to live in. With our peaceful lifestyle, safe schools and streets and friendly people, we're sure you will be happy here.

When you come in to the City Offices to start your utilities, be sure to ask for your Welcome Basket and telephone book. The welcome basket includes a New Resident Information Brochure with helpful information and phone numbers. This brochure is also available in our online documents library.

Utilities:

To get your utilities connected, please visit City Hall. To connect your utilities, you will need to fill out a Utility Service Application. You will also be required to pay a $125.00 non-refundable connection fee. The connection fee is waived if you provide a letter of credit from your previous gas, electric or water utility provider.

If you would like to, you can arrange to have your utility bill automatically paid from your bank account by turning in a Direct Utilities Payment Form. Both forms are available at City Hall, or in our online documents library.

Your utility bill is due on the 15th of every month. For an explanation of your utilities and the utility bill, please see the Paying Your Utility Bill page.

If your utilities are disconnected for non payment, the past due bill amount and a reconnect fee of $50.00 during regular city hours, or $70.00 after hours will be required before the utilities will be reconnected.

Refuse Pickup:

Residential refuse is picked up in Marion twice each week. Depending on where you live in town, it will normally be on either Monday and Thursday or on Tuesday and Friday. For more information on the city's refuse policies, what days your residence will be serviced and holiday schedules, please see the Refuse page.

Dog Tags:

All dogs residing within the Marion city limits must have a current rabies shot and dog tag. Rabies shots are available from the Animal Health Center of Marion County for $13.50. Dog tags are available at the City Offices for $10.00 (from January 1st through February 28th, or within 30 days of moving to town) or $15.00 (After March 1st or past 30 days after your move to town).

If you have any questions, or we can help make your move to Marion easier, please contact the Utility Billing Clerk
