Director of Economic Development The Director of Economic Development for the City of Marion is responsible for developing and maintaining economic development programs to attract and retain businesses in Marion. The Director also provides service and assistance to existing and prospective start-up businesses in utilizing local, regional, state and federal incentive programs, promotes local businesses and retail sales programs, actively promotes the city as a desireable location for business development, prepares studies and reports to enable the City Administrator and City Council to make informed decisions and speaks to community and professional groups.
The Director of Economic Development for the City of Marion is Jami Williams. Jami has a Bachelors Degree from Emporia State University with a double major in Finance and Computer Information Systems and a minor in Accounting. She has 4 years of experience in the banking industry and served as the Comptroller of a local, multi million dollar advertising company for 15 years. She started as Economic Development Director in January 2006. She is a certified Grant Administrator, and has completed the Heartland Economic Development Course, and will attend Economic Development Institute training later this year. Jami has served on the Marion Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and was it's President for several years. She has also served as president of the Parent Teacher Organization at the Marion Elementary School, and was on the Marion Country Club Board of Directors. Jami serves on the Marion County Economic Development lCouncil, the City of Marion Economic Development Advisory Board, the City of Marion Strategic/Comprehensive Planning Commmittee, the City of Marion Planning Commission, and is a founding member of the Marion Advancement Campaign (a non-profit organization investing in the future of Marion).
